China smartphone, tablet sales remained strong in 2Q, paper says

Consumers in mainland China spent a total of 157.77 billion yuan (US$25.8 billion) on smartphones, tablets and laptop personal computers in the second quarter, purchasing a combined 92.37 million units, the South China Morning Post reported on Tuesday, citing data from market research firm GfK. That marked a 47 percent increase from 107.24 billion yuan in total expenditure and an 88 percent improvement over the 49.21 million units sold during the same period last year, it said. Smartphone sales rose 66 percent from a year earlier to 126.09 billion yuan, while total shipments climbed 103 percent to 82.86 million units, according to the report.
