Oct 1 tourist traffic up 24.1% on year, paper says

China’s 122 key tourist spots have reported a combined visitor traffic of 66.69 million as of 5 pm during the first day of the National Day holiday period, representing a year-on-year growth of 24.1 percent, People’s Daily reported Wednesday, citing sources from the National Holiday Tourism Office. Entrance ticket sales totaled 152.47 million yuan (US$24.9 million), up 25.76 percent over last year, it said. Meanwhile, China Railway Corporation said the number of railway passengers on October 1 exceeded the 10 million mark for the first time, with 10.327 million, the report said.
