China, Indonesia to enhance strategic partnership, Xinhua says

Chinese President Xi Jinping {習近平} and his Indonesian counterpart president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono agreed on Wednesday to upgrade ties between their two nations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, Xinhua news agency reported. The initiative came during Xi’s state visit to Jakarta. China has proposed the establishment of an Asian infrastructure investment bank to promote interconnectivity and economic integration in the region, the report said. The two leaders also signed several agreements involving maritime and fisheries, culture exchange, among others. Xi will attend the 21st informal economic leaders’ meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation from Oct. 7 to 8 in Indonesian resort island of Bali.
