RMB included in Taiwan’s foreign reserves, paper says

Taiwan has included the renminbi as one of its foreign reserve currencies for the last six months and will continue to increase its weighting, Taiwan’s Apple Daily reported Thursday, citing the island’s central bank governor, Perng Fai-nan. Perng did not say how much renminbi was held in reserve but said the currency was bought from the market rather than RMB-denominated bonds issued by Beijing. Eleven central banks, including those of Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and South Korea, hold the renminbi in their reserves, the report said.
