Taiwan firms in pole position for street lamp bids, paper says

Taiwanese LED manufacturers are set to tap into huge mainland tenders for energy-efficient street lamps to be launched by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology from November, the United Daily News reported Thursday. Industry sources said previous contracts were for a total of 10,000 street lights to be installed in 10 cities and the new batch, mostly for second- and third-tier centers, could be for three times that amount. The tenders will be awarded on technical merit rather than the lowest price so Taiwanese manufacturers are tipped to stand a better chance of winning out over their mainland counterparts, the report said.
