Govt may adjust charges by big three telcos, report says

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is considering making adjustments to the settlement charges by China Mobile Ltd. (00941.HK), China Telecom Corp. Ltd. (00728.HK) and China United Network Communications Group Co. Ltd. (China Unicom)(00762.HK, 600050.CN), Xinhua’s ENNWEEKLY.com reported Thursday, citing an unnamed person familiar with the matter. The source said mobile network access charges paid by China Telecom and China Unicom to China Mobile will be cut to as low as 3 fen per minute, possibly leading to a 10 percent cut in China Mobile’s net profit but a more than 50 percent increase in the earnings of its two rivals. In addition, the ministry may allow China Mobile to enter the fixed broadband network market, the report said.
