UK shops seek easier visa for Chinese tourists, report says

A total of 950 shops in London, including Harrods, Selfridges and John Lewis, have formed an alliance to ask the national government to further relax visa requirements for Chinese tourists, the official Xinhua news agency reported Sunday, citing a report by the Chinese Business Gazette. Home Secretary Theresa May was quoted as saying the Home Office is studying measures to simplify visa application procedures for Chinese tourists and the country may join the Schengen Visa which enables a visitor to travel across all member countries in Europe using a single visa. According to data from the British government, some 215,000 Chinese tourists went to the country last year with each spending an average of more than 1,700 pounds (US$2,726), the report said.
