An e-commerce platform will be officially launched soon in the Shanghai free-trade zone to allow Chinese consumers to buy foreign brands at lower prices, Shanghai Daily reported Tuesday. With backing from the National Development and Reform Commission, payment service provider Easipay is now running the website buyeasi.com on a trial basis pending approval from customs authorities, the newspaper said, citing a report by Xinmin Evening News. The platform aims to meet increasing demand for imported goods, to ensure their authenticity, and facilitate customs and quarantine procedures. It is also cooperating with usashopcn.com, a purchasing agent for foreign brands. Easipay general manager Wang Peng was quoted as saying the website will focus on mid-range and high-end products such as clothing, accessories, infant formula, consumer electronic products, cosmetics and bags.
