Several ministries and universities will meet on Oct. 16 to discuss a planned nationwide pension fund scheme, Securities Times reported Tuesday. These include the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the State Council’s Development Research Center, Renmin University of China and Zhejiang University. University scholars will be invited to offer expert opinions. As of the end of 2012, the combined pension insurance funds for all cities and towns were 2.39 trillion yuan (US$391.22 billion), mostly cash deposits. Only 19.6 billion yuan were bond investments, the report said.
