Li proposes framework for closer ties with ASEAN, Xinhua says

Premier Li Keqiang {李克強} is proposing a framework for wide-ranging, deep and high-level cooperation between China and members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the next decade, the official Xinhua news agency reported late Tuesday, citing the Chinese leader’s written interview with Southeast Asian media. Li said both sides need to remain committed to building good-neighborly relations and to strengthen exchange and cooperation in the security field. The premier also suggested building an “upgraded version” of the China-ASEAN free trade agreement to promote trade in goods and services, as well as investment liberalization to achieve the goal of increasing two-way trade to US$1 trillion by 2020, the report said. Li will attend the East Asian leaders’ meeting in Brunei from Wednesday, before proceeding to Thailand and Vietnam for official visits.
