Spring Air, Juneyao win nod for cross-strait flights, Yicai says

Spring Airlines Co. Ltd. and Juneyao Airlines Co. Ltd. have received regulatory approvals to operate flights between mainland China and Taiwan, the first mainland budget carriers allowed to do so since 2009, news portal reported Tuesday, without citing its source. Spring Airlines, the nation’s biggest low-cost carrier, will begin flights three days a week between Shanghai and the southern Taiwanese port city of Kaohsiung on Oct. 27, the report said. Wang Zhenghua, chairman of Spring Airlines, was quoted as saying the company is applying for flights to Taipei and other cities on the island, adding that its profit this year is expected to exceed that of last year.
