Taiwan’s consumer confidence index for the third quarter stood at 77.4, the lowest in the Greater China region, as local residents were most concerned about rising prices at a time when salary levels were down to that 16 years ago, United Daily News reported Wednesday, citing a survey by four universities in the region. The index for the mainland was the highest in the region at 91.5, up 3.7 points from the previous quarter and close to the level in the first quarter. It was 86.2 for Macau and 82.3 for Hong Kong. The only sub-index that showed optimism for Taiwan was the timing of stock investments, up 7.3 points to 101.5 from the previous quarter, the report said.
