Mainland, Taiwan regulators to meet Oct 17, paper says

Xiang Junbo {項俊波}, chairman of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC), will hold a meeting with representatives of Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission led by chairman Tseng Ming-chung {曾銘宗} on Oct. 17 to discuss cross-strait insurance investment, Taiwan’s Apple Daily reported Thursday. The discussions, to follow the annual meeting of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors which starts in Taipei on Monday, will focus on raising the investment cap, loosening restrictions on licenses for insurers and allowing Taiwanese insurers to participate in the renminbi qualified foreign institutional investor program. Taiwan has agreed to ease restrictions on mainland insurers’ investment in the island if the CIRC allows Taiwanese insurers to hold more than half of their mainland ventures, the report said.
