Chinese phone maker ZTE Corp. aims to dominate the Philippine smartphone market with affordable handsets in the next three years, Xinhua reported Wednesday. If it achieves the goal, ZTE could relocate some of its manufacturing to the Philippines, the report said. But the company is yet to be a big player in the country, despite becoming the world’s fourth-largest mobile phone manufacturer by unit sales in 2012. ZTE’s exclusive distributor, MSI-ECS Philippines, Inc., said the Chinese phones will not be competing in the market with local brands. “Our phone is comparable to high-end handsets in the market. We don’t compete in the unbranded category,” MSI president and CEO Jimmy Go said.
