The National Development and Reform Commission will increase energy subsidies to achieve its consumption target under the five-year plan to 2015, National Business Daily reported Friday, citing Xie Ji, deputy director general of the Department of Environment and Resources. No further details about the incentives were disclosed. The government wants to reduce energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product (GDP) by 16 percent from 2010 levels by the end of 2015. Only 5.5 percent, or 30 percent of the target, has been cut. In the first half, energy consumption per unit of GDP was down 3.4 percent, less than the 3.7 percent set by the commission, the report said.
