Automatic teller machines (ATMs) will feature serial number readers capable of detecting fake notes by 2015, Beijing News reported Monday, citing the People’s Bank of China (PBoC). Nearly 50,000 ATMs in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Guangzhou are already equipped with such a device. The figure makes up about 80 percent of all ATMs in these cities. The PBoC is holding a week-long nationwide campaign to educate the public about counterfeit money, the report said.
