China Eastern Airlines Corp. Ltd. (00670.HK, 600115.CN) plans to transform its air cargo business into a logistics unit that will serve as an intermediary between service providers — including distributors, hotels and car rental firms– and its passengers and corporate clients, China Business Journal reported Saturday, citing chairman Liu Shaoyong. The company has officially launched its e-commerce website eaemall.com through its logistics service subsidiary Shanghai Eastern Logistics Co. Ltd. to offer fresh produce directly sourced from places of origin, Liu said. It also plans changes to its corporate logo and aircraft body design, Liu was quoted as saying. However, the effect of transformation remains to be seen as the company still suffered a loss in the first half of the year, the report said.
