The Ministry of Finance plans to allocate 5 billion yuan (US$817.26 million) to tackle air pollution, it said in a statement on its website Monday. The heavily polluted cities of Beijing and Tianjin, as well as Heibei province and its surrounding areas including Shanxi, Shandong and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, will receive funding from the central government to support their anti-pollution efforts. The funding is based on a number of criteria including emission reduction, pollution controls and improvement in PM2.5 readings. The central government will evaluate these criteria to determine the amount of funding, the statement said.
