Tencent mum on WeChat users’ fee rumors, paper says

Tencent Holdings Ltd. (00700.HK), China’s largest listed internet firm, has refused to comment on recent market rumors that it will roll out new rules for subscribers to its instant messaging service WeChat, including imposing a 3,000 yuan (US$489.71) annual service fee, the Beijing News reported Saturday. Tencent said the development of its public account business is progressing smoothly and it would not comment on unverified news. China Merchants Bank Co. Ltd. (03968.HK, 600036.CN), China Southern Airlines Co. Ltd. (1055.HK, 600029.CN) and the Guangdong bureau of China United Network Communications Group Co. Ltd. (China Unicom) (00762.HK, 600050.CN) are some of the more well-known public accounts on WeChat, the report said.
