The Xi’an Technological University North Institute of Information Engineering in Shaanxi province has suspended its cooperation agreement with the Yantai industrial park operated by Taiwan’s Foxconn Technology Group, the People’s Daily reported Saturday, citing a statement on the institute’s website. According to media reports, the company was forcing the students to work overtime. Earlier reports said the institute had forced more than 1,000 students to work at the institute as interns by making it a condition for them to get their diplomas. Foxconn said in a statement Friday it has been investigating the charges and has taken measures to ensure interns are not subjected to overtime work, the newspaper said.
