Sinopec pipeline eyed as gas expressway, paper says

The Xinjiang-Guangdong-Zhejiang natural gas pipeline of China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec) (0386.HK, 600028.CN) could be tapped by authorities as the nation’s first gas expressway that can be used by third parties, a move that analysts said would help open up the market and lower gas prices, the China Securities Journal reported Tuesday. Pipelines are traditionally owned and controlled by oil companies, which also set the price for the gas supply. The proposed arrangement could see downstream users being able to negotiate prices with gas suppliers, the report said.
