About 6.24 million TVs were sold on the mainland between September 16 and October 6, down 1 percent from a year earlier, the China Securities Journal reported Tuesday, citing market researcher AVC. It was the first time sales had dipped in the period, which covered the weeklong National Day holiday, AVC said. Some analysts said the sales results suggest TV makers are in for a painful fourth quarter because the central government is unlikely to resume subsidies for energy-efficient appliances this year. Market researcher China Market Monitor Co. Ltd. said sales of air conditioners during the period grew 31 percent to 3.15 million units, while 3.92 million refrigerators were sold, 13.9 percent more than the same time last year, the report said.
