China may start a test run of prefabricated construction on affordable housing projects in certain areas as soon as next year, the China Securities Journal reported Wednesday, citing an unnamed government source. The government is considering using prefabricated components, among other factory-style housing construction methods, and more advanced technology in residential projects to save energy and increase efficiency, the source said. The authorities may offer incentives to both developers and consumers to take up the prefab option, the report said. A set of standards to assess construction using these methods will be launched next year.
