Shanghai to update ship registration rules, website says

The Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration has submitted for approval new rules for registration of international vessels in the city to complement those in the new Shanghai free trade zone, dfdaily.com reported Tuesday, citing administration director general Xu Guoyi. The proposals include scrapping age limits for foreign vessels seeking registration and cutting limits on the proportion of a foreign-controlled fleet sailing under China’s flag, Xu was quoted as saying. In addition, Chinese-flagged ships will be able to hire foreign crew, the report said.
