China eyes measures to promote wind power, paper says

China is considering new measures to further promote the development of wind power, the China Securities Journal reported Thursday, citing Shi Lishan, deputy director general of the new energy department under the National Energy Administration. Under a set of proposed guidelines submitted to the State Council for approval, an electricity-generation quota system for renewable energy will be set up to ensure that all the wind power generated would flow onto the grid, the report said, adding that the government is also considering a subsidy program for the sector. The country’s installed wind power capacity is expected to exceed 75 million kilowatts by the end of this year, with wind power generation hitting 140 billion kWh.
