Taiwan mulls higher solo cross-strait tourist quota, paper says

Taipei is considering raising the daily quota for solo mainland tourists visiting the island at talks between the Taiwan Strait Tourism Association and the mainland’s Association for Tourism Exchange Across the Taiwan Strait, the Economic Daily News reported Thursday, citing Yang Chiu-hsing, a Taiwan minister without portfolio. Yang said Taiwan is proposing to increase the existing daily limit of 2,000 independent travelers to 3,000, adding that the authorities hope that more mainland cities can be added to the program. The daily quota for mainlanders on group tours will stay unchanged at 5,000, the report said.
