Law cuts into S Korea’s Chinese tourist business, Yonhap says

The number of Chinese visitors to South Korea is sharply down this month since China’s new tourism law took effect on October 1, Yonhap news agency reported Thursday, citing data from the Korea Tourism Organization and major travel agencies. HanaTour, South Korea’s largest travel agency, has had just 4,000 or so clients from China so far this month, compared to 11,000 in August and 10,000 in September. China’s new law bans forced shopping, a practice in which agents earn commission by taking tourists to specific shops, the report said.
