Lenovo Group Ltd. (00992.HK) is actively considering a bid for the entire stake of struggling smartphone maker BlackBerry Ltd., and has signed a “nondisclosure” agreement that allows it to look at the Canadian company’s books, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter. Bids for BlackBerry, which is based in Waterloo, Ontario, are expected to come in by Nov. 4, according to the newspaper. Should Lenovo proceed and succeed with a binding offer for BlackBerry, the proposed deal would face government scrutiny in both Canada and the United States, the report said. Canada’s Conservative government has rejected three proposed foreign takeovers of Canadian assets since coming to power in early 2006, it added.
