Urea price hits three-year low on weak demand, paper says

The price of urea, which is used in making fertilizers, has declined to 1,500 yuan (US$245.97) per metric ton, the lowest in the past three years, Securities Times reported Friday, citing data from market monitoring website 100ppi.com. The price has been falling since March this year amid lower international prices, lower production cost and weak demand, an analyst was quoted as saying. China’s export price for the organic compound stood at US$379.78 per metric ton last year, but dropped to between US$275 and US$329 in the first eight months of the year, the report said.
