Car official swings behind hybrid push, paper says

China’s car companies and authorities should do more to promote hybrid vehicles rather than pure-electric ones, the Securities Times reported Monday, citing Ye Shengji, deputy secretary general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. Speaking at a new-energy car industry forum, Ye said hybrid cars are a cornerstone for the development of new-energy vehicles. Officials are encouraging companies to improve research and manufacturing in the area while cutting costs, the report noted.
