China oil import surge due to seasonal factors, report says

Media reports of China surpassing the United States as the world’s biggest oil importer as shown by data from a US government agency were somewhat overrated, Shanghai Daily quoted some experts as saying. Recently published data by the US Energy Information Administration showed that net imports of the US and China stood at 6.24 million and 6.3 million barrels per day in September, respectively. China’s net oil imports last month surpassing those in the US were due to seasonal factors to some extent, and do not represent a yearly tendency,” Wang Zhen, deputy director of the institute of Chinese energy strategy at the China University of Petroleum, was quoted as saying.
