Govt eyes minimum wage for tour guides, CNR says

The government will introduce a minimum wage for tour guides to ensure the healthy development of the tourist industry, China National Radio reported Friday, citing the National Tourism Administration. Many travel agencies have been hiring temporary tour guides, sometimes without contracts and no formal wage system, Zhang Jilin, head of the administration’s general affairs, was quoted as saying. A new tourism law requires such contracts and payment of social insurance fees by agencies, the report said.
