Li pledges to deepen economic reform, Xinhua says

Premier Li Keqiang {李克強} has called for deeper economic reform and restructuring after economic growth rebounded in the third quarter, Xinhua news agency reported Sunday. Also, the government should speed up measures to ensure a fairer playing field for all market players, Li was quoted as saying during a State Council meeting Friday. China’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth came in at 7.8 percent in third quarter after falling for two consecutive quarters, the report said. The growth was mainly driven by investment rather than consumption, suggesting more work needs to be done to tie the growth model to domestic demand and ensure sustainable development, Bank of Communications Co. Ltd. (03328.HK, 601328.CN) chief economist Lian Ping was quoted as saying.
