SinoPac quizzed over cross-strait trading center, paper says

Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission has asked SinoPac Financial Holdings Co. Ltd. to explain the investment made by its venture capital unit in a planned cross-strait equity trading center in Xiamen, Fujian province , Economic Daily News reported Monday, citing unidentified sources. Taiwan currently allows venture capital firms under financial holding companies or banks to invest in financial leasing firms, small-loan firms and venture capital management firms in the mainland, but the planned equity trading center is not among the areas they can invest in. Ten financial institutions from the mainland and Taiwan signed a deal on Oct. 12 to set up the center, including Guosen Securities Co. Ltd., CITIC Securities Co. Ltd. (06030.HK, 600030.CN) and Shenzhen Securities Information Co. Ltd., the report said.
