Taiwan will ensure a level playing field for foreign companies in a planned free trade zone (FTZ), Commercial Times reported Monday, citing an unnamed Taipei official. Such companies will receive equal treatment as their Chinese counterparts and will enjoy preferential policies not available outside the FTZ, the report said. Taiwan may open up to 98 percent of its manufacturing sector to foreigners in general from 95 percent at present. In addition, a 50 percent shareholding cap on mainland investment in the flat panel sector will be lifted, the report said.
