A higher court will rule on an appeal by disgraced former Chongqing party chief Bo Xilai against his conviction and jail sentence for corruption, Shanghai Daily reported Tuesday. The Shandong Provincial Higher People’s Court said Bo’s appeal will be heard on Friday morning. Bo was charged with bribery, embezzlement and abuse of power in August and was sentenced life imprisonment on Sept. 22. He contested the sentence and filed an appeal to the higher court in Shandong, the report said, citing an Oct. 9 court document. The 64-year-old Bo was found guilty of taking bribes worth 20.44 million yuan (about US$3.3 million), either personally or through his family members, between 1999 and 2012.
