Hengqin slow in implementing economic zone policies, paper says

Hengqin, a special economic zone of Zhuhai city in the southern Guangdong province, has been slow in rolling out guidelines for companies in Macau to invest in the area, the Macao Daily News reported Thursday, citing remarks by Macau Association of Banks chairman Ye Yixin. Many investors are still awaiting the implementation rules, such as securing renminbi loans from banks in Macau for investment in the zone, more than a year after obtaining approvals from the central government, Ye was quoted as saying. As a result, Hengqin is lagging far behind Shenzhen’s Qianhai New Area and Shanghai’s free trade zone in attracting investors, the report said.
