China, EU agree on free trade, open market, Xinhua says

China and the European Union will advance China-EU relations by fighting protectionism and sticking to an open market, Xinhua reported Thursday, quoting Vice Premier Ma Kai as saying. Ma made the statement after co-chairing the China-EU High-Level Economic Dialogue with EU Vice President Olli Rehn and EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht, the report said. The two sides also agreed on “prudent use of trade remedy measures”, a commitment that came months after the two economies resolved a solar panel trade dispute involving more than US$20 billion of Chinese exports.
