China online spending world’s second largest in 2012, paper says

Chinese consumers spent a total of US$126 billion on online shopping in 2012, next only to the US$206 billion spent by consumers in the United States, which had the No.1 rank, China News Service reported Thursday, citing an e-commerce report published the same day by real estate consultant Jones Lang LaSalle. According to the report, Chinese online spending is expected to reach US$1 trillion by 2020, more than any other country. Online shopping in China is seen having great room for growth as currently only 40 percent of the people are using internet, and of them only 40 percent of them have shopped online, compared to 70 percent in the US, the report said.
