China, US strengthen banking ties, Xinhua says

China’s central bank and the United States’ Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) have agreed to cooperate in resolving cross-border issues and strengthening technical support, the official Xinhua news agency reported. A memorandum of understanding was signed Thursday between People’s Bank of China governor Zhou Xiaochuan and FDIC chairman Martin Gruenberg. The agreement also calls for increased depositor protection, tighter risk management and enhanced cross-border financial services, the report said.
