Forum hears call for cross-strait gas pipeline, website says

A senior adviser to Taiwan’s ruling Kuomintang said the island and the mainland should explore the potential for building natural gas pipelines across the Taiwan Strait, Taiwan News reported Sunday, citing a Central News Agency report. At a bilateral forum in Nanning on Sunday, Hsueh Hsiang-chuan, vice chairman of Taiwan’s Chinatrust Financial Holding Co., said such pipelines would give Taiwan easier access to natural gas. Hsueh called on both sides to conduct joint research on the concept to help address common issues such as stable energy supply and carbon reduction targets.
