KMT urges cross-strait free trade links, Xinhua says

Taiwan’s ruling Kuomintang (KMT) party has urged comprehensive cooperation between a pilot economic area on the island and the Shanghai free trade zone as well three other economic zones in eastern China’s Fujian and Jiangsu provinces, Xinhua news agency reported Sunday. The proposal was made by KMT deputy chairman John Chiang during the Ninth Cross-Strait Economic, Trade and Culture Forum in the southern city of Nanning, and was among the 19 joint proposals adopted during the exchange, the report said. The free economic zones established by the two sides should cooperate and learn from each other to achieve common development, according to the proposal.
