Ministry cultivates ag e-commerce info service, paper says

The Ministry of Commerce is building a website to give farmers more accurate information about online demand for agricultural products, Beijing Business Today reported Monday, citing Nie Linhai, deputy inspector of the ministry’s e-commerce and information department, as saying. Nie said farmers are often producing too much of some crops because they do not have up-to-date information. According to ministry estimates, there were more than 260,000 agricultural products stores on alone last year, with 19.8 billion yuan (US$3.2573 billion) in annual sales. The figure is forecast to expand to 50 billion yuan this year and 100 billion yuan in 2014, the report said.
