The Chinese banking industry saw its total assets amount to 143.92 trillion yuan (US$23.65 trillion) as of the end of September, marking an increase of 2.24 trillion yuan from the previous month and 13.9 percent higher than the level a year ago, China News Service reported Monday, citing data from the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC). Total debts among these institutions were 134.21 trillion yuan, up by 13.6 percent. According to the CBRC, total assets of large commercial banks totaled 62.01 trillion yuan, up 8.6 percent year on year and making up for 43.1 percent of the assets of the entire banking industry. Total assets of joint-equity commercial banks accounted for 18.1 percent of the entire market, followed by local city-level commercial banks with 9.7 percent, and other financial institutions with 29.1 percent, the report said.
