Corun opens hybrid-car battery plant in Changsha, paper says

Hunan Corun New Energy Co. Ltd. (600478.CN) on Monday began operating a plant in Changsha, the capital city of south-central China’s Hunan province, to produce nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries for hybrid cars that will be 40 percent cheaper than those currently in the market, Beijing Business Today reported Tuesday, citing the plant’s general manager Luo Tao. In 2011, Corun acquired one of the three largest NiMH car battery producers in the world which owned the core technologies for hybrid-car batteries. The company expects its battery output to reach 300,000 units by 2018.
