GM vegetable oil found in state reserves, CGRC says

China Grain Reserve Corp (CGRC) said on Monday that 1,477 tons of vegetable oil made of genetically modified vegetables seeds have been found in the company’s storage facilities. After an inspection, the company found that 994 tons of GM vegetable oil has come into its inventory from a Hubei company and another 483 tons of such oil from a Hunan company, it said in an online statement. CGRC has removed the oil from its storage and the two firms have been penalized, it said. Earlier, there had been media reports that some companies which were entitled to purchase oil on behalf of the State Reserve Corp have replaced non-genetically modified oil with genetically modified oil to secure bigger profit.
