The national housing authority will unveil next year an action plan to promote prefabricated construction of residential projects, the China Securities Journal reported Tuesday, citing an unnamed official. The policy is likely to be piloted in 10 eastern cities, five cities in central China, and five cities in the western region by 2015, according to the newspaper. The government wants to encourage the use of prefabricated materials and other factory-built methods in building homes to save energy and increase efficiency. So far, 17 cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, have shown interest in joining the test run, the report said.
