Taiwan legislators seek ban on mainland 4G equipment, paper says

Several Taiwanese legislators from the opposition Democratic Progressive Party on Monday have asked the government to ban the purchase of 4G telecommunications equipment from mainland China on security grounds, Want Daily reported Tuesday. One of them also asked the National Security Bureau to bar the mainland’s networking and telecommunications equipment supplier Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. from participating in bidding for telecom equipment orders on the island, according to the newspaper. An unnamed senior manager at Huawei said earlier the company was focusing on selling 4G equipment rather than mobile phones in Taiwan, the report said.
