UPDATE: CPC third plenary session to be held Nov 9-12

(Adds details of politburo meeting)

The third plenary session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China will be held from Nov. 9 to 12, the official Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday after a politburo meeting chaired by Party General Secretary Xi Jinping {習近平}.

The politburo said on Aug. 27 that the third plenary session will be held in November, without giving the exact dates.

The nation’s top decision-making body sought public opinions on how to deepen reform. These will be part of a proposal to be submitted to the plenary session for approval, Xinhua said.

In Tuesday’s meeting, the politburo called for deeper structural reform, which was launched in the third plenary session of the 11th Central Committee 35 years ago, to change people’s mindset, boost productivity and improve the outlook of Chinese-style socialism.

The politburo also passed new rules to forbid party members and government departments from engaging in extravagant practices. The party will investigate officials who have wasted public money, it said.
