Beijing open to cross-strait leaders’ meeting, Xinhua says

Beijing is positive and open about a possible meeting between the leaders of mainland China and Taiwan, Xinhua news agency reported Wednesday, citing Fan Liqing, a spokesperson of the State Council Taiwan Office. Fan was responding to a question at a press conference about the timing of a possible meeting between Xi Jinping {習近平}, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Ma Ying-jeou {馬英九}, chairman of the Kuomintang. As long as the meeting is conducive to the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, China remains positive and open, Fan was quoted as saying.
